Warehouse Tour :- Wang Foong Food

I was attracted by a nice aroma when I walked along Woodland Terrarce. It was the smell of BBQ lamp and sausages that make me find the warehouse. For this CNY season, Wang Foong has opened its door to allow CNY shoppers to buy sausages or hotdog (can someone tell me the difference?)!

There is nothing much to report as the Factory is not open for visit after Chinese New Year nor is it production process open for visiting. However, in this festive season, an addition place to grab some discounted CNY goodies is always welcome.

See the photo below.

This location will be classified as under Warehouse visits.

Okay to make up for the lost days I will quickly introduce a few places. I will enhance the blog entries with more details once I get some break!

Their products include "Kueh" - a form of pastry of Malay and Chinese origin, cake, rolls and pastry. Therefore, a New Year shopping trip will not be completed with visiting their warehouse!

Chinese New Year Part 13 - Kwong Cheong Thye

Due to the Chinese New Year, I am as busy as a bee. I am sorry for the slow update this few days. As the New Year approaches, it is one mad rush after another!

Okay, the next introduction is Kwong Cheong Thye. Kwong Cheong Thye is one of the largest manufacturers of Soya and Chili Sauce related products in Singapore.

During the visit, participants will get a chance to enjoy a meal cooked using their sauces. At the same time, enjoy quite a huge discount for products that are purchase at the warehouse (or else it will not match this blog objective!).

As a self reflection, I realise there is a lot of room for improvement in terms of my photo skill!

Chinese New Year Part 12 - "Fa Gao" 发糕

There is no way to translate this into English. A direct translation is get rich cake. This cake is commonly found in Taoist Altar as an offering to the gods. During Chinese New Year, it is also frequently steam and eaten hot. In the factory, we can observe that the cake is made from rice flour + colourings + sugar + yeast before it is steam.

The making of the cake has been around for more than 600 hundred years and is a popular commoner food in Ming Dynasty China. Being easy to make, nutritious and having a good name (get rich quickly) it is love by the Chinese of all ages...even now.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to take photo of the mixing and baking process. If you guys are interested, keep a tab on this post as we BEG the boss to allow us entries. To those who are just interested in purchase, well you can and it is way cheaper than those sold outside (in line with this blog objective!).

This is classified as part of warehourse tours.

Chinese New Year Part 11 - 香味 (Fragrance Roasted Pork)

As the all important Chinese New Year dawn upon us, hope all of you have started taking leave to clear your house, stock up on the non-perishable and clear your fridge for the perishable.

To any foreign tourists looking at this blog, a word of advice is to avoid coming to Singapore on the first two day of Lunar New Year + the eve. If I am not wrong...too lazy to check calendar, the relevant date is from 13 Feb to 16 Feb. why? You may ask.

As Chinese is the majority here (>75% of the population) a lot of us will not be working during the above-mentioned period. Come after 17 Feb and you will still get to enjoy the festival…with the crowd.

However, if you are already here, time to move on to the next destination of Chinese New Year shopping, the famous Roasted Pork warehouse or more popularly known as "Bak Kwa".

I am sure many of you heard of Fragrance “Bak Kwa” or 香味. What you may not know is that it sells all kind of tidbits popular during Chinese New Year. Take a look!

This tour is categorised as part of warehouse tours.
