Educational Tour - Part 2 - Mushroom Farm Tour at Mycofarm

Today is a devastating day for the Citizens of Haiti. It seems weird that life goes on in sunny Singapore. Well weird or not, let us appreciate life to the fullest! Now my next introduction is mushroom farm - Mycofarm.

In Mycofarm, mushroom such as Shitake, Oyster mushroom and Abalone mushroom are cultured in a control environment where the temperature is kept between 15 and 20 degree Celsius and a humidity of at least 80 percent for optimum growth and thickness.

At Mycofarm, a guide will be engaged to show us around their numerous greenhouses (>20). The entrance fee per person is $3.50.

Inside the closed shed, the guide will explain to us the life cycle of that particular breed of mushrooms, the type of mushroom, what kind of log are used, the temperature, the plucking methods (example, gloves must be wore to prevent fingerprints from being imprinted on the mushrooms), how the logs are broken down into nutrients rich soil, etc.

I do not want to spoil the learning process by telling you guys what I have learnt. Just visit Mycofarm, you will not regret it!

Growing Gourmet and Medicinal MushroomsAfter the tour, our host will cook for us a nice meal using their own mushrooms. The mushrooms are so clean and fresh no washing are necessary and can be eaten either fresh or cooked.

After the tour, you can purchase the mushrooms, buns and other products right at Mycofarm sale center. FYI, some of the products are not sold elsewhere in Singapore or even the world!

This tour is categorised under Farm/Nursery Tours  and educational tours.
