Educational Tour

Places listed here are suitable for both Adults and Children. We are a strong advocate of life long earning and we believe that it is through exposure and seeing new things can we continue to fire our curiosity.

For Children, as quoted from a paragraph in early childhood curriculum written by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore Senior Minister of Trade and Industry and Education

"The child who has his curiosity ignited in his early years, who develops an excitement about learning and interacts easily with others, will have a headstart in life. Let’s give every child a headstart."

We hope that this blog can achieve this lofty objectives.

Alot of factory tours venues will also appear in this educational tours section as factory tours usually come with guides. So feel free to follow the links below and see what interest you!

For locations with a (worksheets) hyperlink, it means that worksheets are available for download. Be patient, the number of locations with worksheets will increase over time. It is a time consuming process to write and cross-checked the answer.

Educational Tour - Part 2 - Mushroom Farm Tour at Mycofarm

Today is a devastating day for the Citizens of Haiti. It seems weird that life goes on in sunny Singapore. Well weird or not, let us appreciate life to the fullest! Now my next introduction is mushroom farm - Mycofarm.

In Mycofarm, mushroom such as Shitake, Oyster mushroom and Abalone mushroom are cultured in a control environment where the temperature is kept between 15 and 20 degree Celsius and a humidity of at least 80 percent for optimum growth and thickness.

At Mycofarm, a guide will be engaged to show us around their numerous greenhouses (>20). The entrance fee per person is $3.50.

Inside the closed shed, the guide will explain to us the life cycle of that particular breed of mushrooms, the type of mushroom, what kind of log are used, the temperature, the plucking methods (example, gloves must be wore to prevent fingerprints from being imprinted on the mushrooms), how the logs are broken down into nutrients rich soil, etc.

I do not want to spoil the learning process by telling you guys what I have learnt. Just visit Mycofarm, you will not regret it!

Growing Gourmet and Medicinal MushroomsAfter the tour, our host will cook for us a nice meal using their own mushrooms. The mushrooms are so clean and fresh no washing are necessary and can be eaten either fresh or cooked.

After the tour, you can purchase the mushrooms, buns and other products right at Mycofarm sale center. FYI, some of the products are not sold elsewhere in Singapore or even the world!

This tour is categorised under Farm/Nursery Tours  and educational tours.

If you need transportation services to visit this place, please refer to our product listing page.

Chinese New Year Part 7 - Wheat and Mushroom farm(Kin Yan)

You may not believe it. But yes, despite our small size, Singapore does have farms. All sorts of farms from Dragon fruit farm, to mushroom farm to fish farm. After this Chinese New Year period, I am going to do a series on farms in Singapore!

Right now, if you are tired of shopping for Chinese New Year goodies in a retail shop, factory or warehouse, I recommend this farm situated in Lim Chu Kang (Kin Yan).

Shop in a nice quiet environment (provided no tour groups are visiting) surrounded by small plantations of wheat grass, mushrooms, aloe vera, dragon fruits, etc.

Before buying look at how some of the goodies look like while they are still connected to the soil! Food grown is directly sold. For example fresh mushroom, cereal made from wheat grass, ice cream made from wheat, vanilla and one or two other flavors!

Homegrown Whole Grains: Grow, Harvest, and Cook Wheat, Barley, Oats, Rice, Corn and MoreIf the boss is free, feel free to query him on the how and what of growing wheats and mushroom. Btw, they grow Ling Zhi too!

Below, I will show some of the products sold during Chinese New Year (These products may not be available outside of Chinese New Year).

By the way, this tour is classified under both educational tours and farm tours.
